Santa’s 10 Self-Care Secrets for Parents

Are you wanting less stress and more joy this Holiday Season? Ask yourself this question: What do I need to do to take loving, responsible care of myself today? The hard part is listening to the answer, trusting the answer, and having the courage to follow through once we hear it. You have your list and Santa has his!

Santa’s 10 Self-Care Secrets

Stretch

Do yoga. Lowering our head below our heart calms the nervous system. (Click here for a Kids Yoga Christmas Special!)

Slow down.

Slow down and enjoy the sights and sounds around you.

Slow down and smell the cookies and the tree,

Slow down, slow down and count to three.

Stay calm and connected.

Being truly present is a wonderful gift. We spoil our kids when we replace presents with our presence. Chaos and calm are both contagious, so spread calm. When you feel rushed and anxious, pause and take at least 3 deep calming breaths.

Smile

Smile, sing carols, dance, and have fun. Remember: Ho, Ho,Ho, let it go, let it go.

Simple.

How can you simplify? What special traditions do you want your children to remember about the holidays?

Sit on the floor.

Play. Relax. Meditate.

Shhh.

Give your home some peace and quiet. Maybe turn off all electronics, look at the stars, eat by candle light, or play cards.

Speak kindly to yourself.

You’ve got this. Remember, you are listening, so speak kindly.

Soak in a warm bath.

You do have time. You are worth it and your kids will notice this loving self-care act.

Sleep in.

Sleep is magical! Santa loves nap time.
